essence

Yoga Academy You Are The Buddha is a place for yoga, yoga therapy, and teacher training at Breda Central Station.

On this page, you'll find what our name, our logo, and our way of working stand for: yoga as a practice in attention, self-knowledge, and careful attunement to what body and mind need right now.

The Shankavarta Mudra

Our logo is inspired by the Shankhavarta Mudra. For us, this mudra is a symbol of stillness, listening, and returning to yourself.

Not as something grand or complicated, but as a simple reminder: you don't always have to look further away. Yoga often begins with attention to what's already here.

How to practice the Shankhavarta Mudra

  1. Begin at your heart
Bring your palms together in front of your chest, as a gesture of attention and respect.

  2. Let space arise
Keep your fingertips connected and gently let your palms come apart. As if space is opening up between your inner world and the outer world.

  3. Bring your right index finger to the centre
Let your right index finger settle quietly at the centre of your chest. Not to force anything, but as an invitation to pause.

The mudra reminds us of something simple: yoga doesn't begin with performance, but with listening.

You are the Buddha

The name You Are The Buddha means something like "the awakened one." For us, there's a simple, beautiful idea behind it: you don't have to become someone else first to be good enough as you are.

Every person has the capacity to find rest, to get to know themselves better, and to look at themselves with attention and kindness. You too. Sometimes we lose a bit of that connection — through busyness, expectations, illness, or everything else life brings.

Yoga can help you come a little closer to yourself again.

That might sound like a big idea, but in our classes we keep it small and simple. Pausing for a moment. Feeling how you're doing. Noticing what you need. Discovering where your strength lies, and where your limits are. And practising how to meet both, honestly and kindly.

You don't have to make yourself look better than you are. You don't have to become perfect, flexible, calm, or enlightened either. You're allowed to become more and more yourself — and to learn to trust that that's enough.

Whether you're stepping onto the mat for the first time, recovering from a difficult period, or developing yourself as a yoga teacher: yoga invites you to come home to yourself.

Not to become a different person. But to live with more rest, trust, and attention as who you already are.

Our vision

We don't see yoga as a performance, a quick fix, or a standard method.

For us, yoga is a way of making the conditions in which you live, move, and breathe a little friendlier. Sometimes that means building strength and carefully exploring your limits. Sometimes it means slowing down, resting, and recognizing that doing less is enough.

In doing so, we look not only at postures or techniques, but at the whole person: body, breath, attention, capacity, context, and life stage.

The central question isn't: how do you become stronger, more flexible, or calmer as fast as possible?

The question is: what supports you, right now, in being present with more attention, clarity, and care?

Our mission

Our mission is to offer yoga in a way that's accessible, careful, and meaningful — from your first class to professional training.

We do this in three ways.

Daily yoga classes

In our daily classes, we make room for different levels and needs. You can choose calm classes such as yin, restorative yoga, or hatha, or more active forms such as vinyasa or power yoga.

The form differs, but the foundation stays the same: attentive practice, with respect for your body and your limits.

Yoga therapy

In our yoga therapy, we work with people who need extra attunement — for example, with stress, burnout, Long COVID, chronic complaints, pain, overstimulation, or recovery after illness.

The guidance is gentle, pacing-informed, and complementary to medical care. We make no promise of recovery. We explore what's feasible and what can support self-regulation, rest, capacity, and quality of life.

Yoga Teacher Training

In our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, we train teachers who want more than to teach postures.

You learn to teach from technique, tradition, ethics, body awareness, and scientifically informed insight. Not as a fixed script, but as a way of seeing: attentive, inquiring, and careful.

Where tradition and science meet

Yoga has deep roots in tradition. At the same time, we live and work in the present, with modern knowledge about stress, breathing, pain, recovery, behaviour, and health.

At Yoga Academy You Are The Buddha, we bring those worlds together. Not by reducing yoga to science, and not by repeating tradition uncritically either. We look for an honest, applicable form of yoga that makes sense for people today.

From your first yoga class to your teacher training.
